Simplificando bastante, um Polarizador é um filtro que filtra (Redundância? Lol) a luz de modo a zonas, como por exemplo, um céu muito claro ficar mais escuro, e criar mais contraste nas nuvens etc..
Serve também para tirar fotos a vidros ou água sem que se vejam reflexos.

Gosto do conceito e do enquadramento.
De facto talvez um polarizador tivesse ajudado, não tanto no "burst" do sol - que a mim, pessoalmente, não me incomoda muito - mas principalmente naquela zona entre as duas pessoas da direita.
Não tenho bem a certeza qual seria o resultado do polarizador no grupo de pessoas. Caso escurecesse talvez fosse bem aplicado, para fortalecer o efeito Backlight, que para mim é um elemento chave da foto.

Pronto esta é a minha "Critica Avançada"
